At the Natural Remedy Warehouse we have for over 30 years been advising people on overcoming many common complaints by making Dietary changes, taking Food Supplements or Natural Remedies and more.
However, we recognise that there are occasions when you really need in-depth, specialist advice and so we have various trained natural health practitioners who are available for consultation by appointment at regular intervals. Contact us to make an appointment or to get further information about them. Those currently available include:
Mel Downing - Homeopathy Contact us for next available date(s)
Mel is a qualified homeopath, registered with the Society of Homeopaths who can give expert advice on treating a great many common ailments. In the several years that Mel has been coming to us she has been highly successful, as shown by the fact that many of her new patients come through recommendations. Homeopathy is a gentle, safe therapy which can be used with anyone from infancy to old age. For more information about homeopathy visit www.homeopathy-soh.org More details about Mel and her consultations can found on the web at www.ukhomeopaths.net/meldowning (note however, that Mel’s page on that site still shows our old address. You won’t find us there!!)
The detailed first consultation lasts around one and a half hours; subsequent sessions, when needed, are shorter. Mel also offers free 15-minute “taster sessions” for anyone uncertain whether homeopathy could be helpful to them.
Chris Mills - Food Sensitivity Testing Contact us for next available date(s))
A surprising number of symptoms can be due to food sensitivity. They include for instance aches and pains, constipation or diarrhoea, headaches, itching, sinusitis, skin rashes and many others. Finding which food or foods cause the problem is often hard to pinpoint. Chris has long experience of using electronic equipment to reveal these foods - and then to give expert advice to help the patient adjust their diet while still making sure that they are getting all the nutrients that they need. Read more about what Chris does at www.2-diet-4.co.uk
The testing session lasts about an hour and follow-up is available where needed. Add-on tests for an assessment of Nutritional Status or an E-number panel for 28 commonly-used E-numbers can also be booked at the same time.
Jacqueline Cole - Medical Herbalist Contact us for next available date(s)
We are delighted to have Jacqueline at the Natural Remedy Warehouse. She achieved two university degrees before undertaking the intensive three-year training course of the modern medical herbalist. Modern herbalism uses traditional herbal medicines while at the same time taking advantage of greater scientific understanding of the body and our ailments.
For centuries, herbalism was the world’s principle form of medicine used all over the world, including the West. Indeed is often forgotten that European doctors mostly used herbal preparations into the middle of the 20th century. While most Western doctors today concentrate on pharmaceuticals and have little understanding of our herbal heritage, countries such as China and India in contrast have successfully combined the two approaches.
The pharmaceutical industry relies on herbs to give them the starting point for many new drugs. Typically they then concentrate on identifying what they call the active principal and ignoring the rest. Herbalists believe that the very complexity of the constituents of herbs means that this approach loses much of the efficacy of herbal medicine and can even lead to the side-effects of many modern drugs.
The detailed first herbal consultation with Jacqueline lasts about an hour and a half and includes an assessment of your general state of organic health, followed by detailed analysis of your specific health concerns. Herbal remedies to treat these will be made up especially for you, the first two weeks treatment being included in the fee for the first consultation. The remedies are all in the form of tinctures that are easy and pleasant to take.
Jacqueline Cole also offers Reflexology, Ear Candling and Massage Therapy.
Georgina Hicks -Bone Density Testing Contact us for next available date(s)
Osteoporosis, the loss of bone mass and density leading to bones becoming thin, weak and increasingly prone to fractures, is an increasingly serious health problem for many people in their later years. Although most people probably associate the disease with women around the time of the menopause and after, it is not confined the this group. A surprising number of men are also prone to a degree. Studies suggests that while 1 in 2 women over 50 will suffer a fracture, so will 1 in 5 men.
We offer testing using the CUBA Bone Densitometer, a sophisticated piece of medically-approved equipment that uses ultrasound to scan the heel bone. The test, which requires only the removal of a shoe, takes just a few minutes. The system presents a printout of the result and the trained practitioner who operates the equipment explains the results and what action (if any) should be taken to improve matters.
The importance of having a test is shown by the fact that on the last test day six people were advised to consult their doctor urgently for further investigation.
